more tips for the bored spouse

[hopefully this post will publish this time]

As I’ve mentioned before, I spend a lot of time on the web. Probably too much time. I like to read about financial things, music and generally cool shiny new things be it gadgets or websites. I’ve decided to give you a taste of what’s out there on the web that I visit daily and hopefully it will give you interesting destinations on the web.

If you like to participate in cool, new website before the rest of the public: Inviteshare is a gateway to find a foot in the door of new websites that are not yet open to public registration. Basically, the way many websites in beta (testing) stage allow new users is for current users to hand out invitations but there’s often a trendy new website that you’d like to try but you don’t know anyone with an invite. Invite share connects people with invites with those who want one. All you have to do is register and let them know which sites you’d like an invite for.

If you like to play flash games and would like to get a little cash doing it: Moola is a website that you can actually get an invite to through inviteshare. You can also get an invite here.  The premise is that you play flash games against other players and winners get a chance to double what they risk. Moola gives you $.01 to start with and you can theoretically make over $10 million by doubling your bets. Here is Techcrunch’s review.

If you are full of good ideas and would like to see what it takes to bring them to reality: Cambrian House uses the concept of crowdsourcing to put member’s ideas to the test. Crowdsourcing is the concept that a large crowd is much better at judging and enhancing an idea than a small number of experts. Ideas on the site range from web services to philanthropic endeavors. The gist of it is that you submit ideas that the community then votes on and helps to develop. If you manage to get your idea going, you are encouraged to find other community members who are willing to work with you to bring it to reality. All of this is done through a system of bartering using Cambrian House’s own currency. Very cool.

If you like to follow your expenses closely and find deals on bank and credit card rates: Mint is a service that recently opened to the public. It is a central place to sync your banks, credit cards and savings accounts so that you can monitor where you are spending your money. The beauty of mint is that it also compares you current rates and finds better deals that might be of interest to you with an indication of how much you’d approximately save. I have found it to be incredibly easy to use and it provides a comprehensive view of your spending. My eyes have been opened to the many other opportunities out there to make my money work for me.

If you like to listen discover new music commercial free: Pandora came to save my ears and make my heart happy. I listen to music a lot and I love to hear about indie or new artists. Pandora’s magic behind the scenes is the Music Genome Project which has categorized songs and artists by hundreds of attributes. The result is a service that is free and all you do is sign up and create channels by artists or songs that you like. The service will play songs or artists that are similar and it gives you the power to assign each song a thumb up or thumb down. You can also skip songs. If you listen to music while on the computer, this is an awesome service!

It’s a short list again, but I hope it reveals some cool web destinations for you.
